On behalf of Bishop Auckland Town Council I would like to wish all residents a Happy Christmas and a prosperous and healthy New Year.
I am honoured to be Mayor at this time of great change in our town. Bishop Auckland has certainly been put on the map in the past year. Congratulations must go to Amy Tinkler for her tremendous achievement in the Rio Olympics and to Scarlett Moffatt for being crowned Queen of the Jungle.
Special thanks must also go to Jonathan Ruffer for having the faith to invest in our town and to make things happen of which we could only have dreamed.
I was a member of the show team at Kynren this year and am immensely proud that I was there in the first season. The show exceeded all expectations drawing audiences from all over the country and overseas. The Town Council would like to thank all the Archers for their time and commitment and also our French friends from Puy de Fou who worked tirelessly over the summer to make Kynren such a huge success.
I would like to thank the Town Team who have worked behind the scenes delivering entertainment in our Town Centre.
I feel that Bishop Auckland is on the verge of something wonderful. I hope you are as excited about the coming months as I am and can see the marvellous opportunities that are just around the corner.
The Town Council is elected to represent you and this year we have been formulating a Parish Plan. We have conducted a survey to discover your aspirations for the town and more news of the findings will follow in the New Year. Thank you to everyone who has taken part.
In the past two months I have had to stand down from my role because I had to have an operation on my spine. I would personally like to thank Councillor David Fleming, Deputy Mayor, who has stood in for me and kept things going. I look forward to resuming my duties in the New Year and will continue to raise funds for my chosen charity the Butterwick Hospice.
May you share this season with those you love and find peace.
Councillor Ann Golightly
Mayor of Bishop Auckland
